Consultancy
Good design is always based upon carrying out detailed site investigations and planning ahead whether on a greenfield site or an existing development. We can assess existing land, soil, watercourses, water bodies, drainage systems, effluents & treatment systems and provide bespoke advice on how best to repair, alter or re-new the systems to enable them to cater for your development now and in the future.
A recent example of our consultancy work is outlined below:
William Tracey Ltd, North Ayrshire
A detailed drainage appraisal report was prepared for a waste transfer station with a view to achieving higher quality water from the lightly contaminated surface water run-off discharge from the site via an existing settlement pond.
This involved our assessing typical daily operations & movements of vehicles across the concrete yard, observing typical vehicle washing operations in the washbay, sampling & assessing silt settleability characteristics, reviewing drain CCTV survey reports, reviewing existing maintenance programmes & operator compliance and assessing historical water sample results. In addition to this the existing settlement pond was surveyed with regard to its surface area, water depth, silt depth and base depth.
In summary it was found that the pre-settlement area after the wash bay was not adequate in volume or design, dirty washbay water and clean yard water were mixing hampering effective pre-settlement and that the retention capacity of the pond was too small for the total volume of water draining from the concrete yard & roofs during rainfall events.
Our report was accepted by our client and welcomed by the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency. This led on to our preparing detailed designs for: i) new drainage to separate clean & dirty water run-off, ii) new silt separation facilities for the washbay and iii) a new Retention Pond to cater for run-off from the entire site.
